Measure tool

I can’t find a measure tool, is there one?

I’m editing an existing interior scene, I’m replacing certain items of furniture in the scene. I can see the overall dimensions of an item, but I want to see particular dimensions and also determine the distance between objects in a scene. As I use the Alibre plugin, I can’t export into a file type that can be opened by Alibre to determine the measurements there.

As far as I know there is no such tool in Keyshot.
It’s not really something a rendering software is expected to do either in my opinion, that falls in the CAD/other modeling software category if you ask me.

I’m no expert though, and there might be a way to get around this. But I don’t know how in that case.

Whether it’s needed/should be provided is dependent on workflow. If I model in Alibre, and then simply render the model it’s not necessary. However, when importing objects into an environment from various sources, being able to measure objects between two points is very helpful.

Hi Jesse,

I mostly try to organise the scene outside KeyShot since that works much faster in my opinion. But if it’s not about the mm a way I use sometimes is to just use a cube between objects, scale it so it fits between objects and look inside the properties on big it is.

It’s not ideal and would help if there was some smart snap feature as well in KS so aligning things also got easier of getting the ‘cube/plane’ the right size. But I don’t know any renderers that have a measure tool but sometimes it could be useful for now I cheat a lot

I also try to organize my scenes outside of Keyshot regardless of where the models come from, in probably 99% of my cases. It’s a much faster workflow to edit scenes in a modeler/CAD software than it would be in Keyshot even with a good measuring tool. And there are really good completely free softwares available both for modeling and CAD, so there’s no price tag stopping anyone from implementing it into their workflow either.

I do agree that it wouldn’t hurt to have the possibility in Keyshot, but I can definitely understand why it isn’t a thing yet.
